Roger and Alex Ureña's Geisha 🇨🇷
Costa Rica
Back when we opened our doors in 2017, we purchased our first Geisha lot from Santa Teresa 2000 Micromill, owned by Roger Ureña.
I still remember how excited and nervous I was roasting that coffee five days before Christmas — a coffee that would ultimately change the course of our small business.
Nine years later, I finally made the trip to Santa Teresa to meet Alex Ureña. Alex is beginning to take over responsibility for the farms and mill as Roger moves toward retirement.
We got our hands dirty sorting and milling some of the last Geisha harvested for the 2026 season, checked on coffee resting in the drying beds, and wandered through the farms eating fresh fruit and seeing where the magic happens — high in the mountains, above even some of the clouds.
The high altitudes of the farms and mill create a unique environment for sweet, complex coffees. Paired with the meticulous processing skills of Roger and Alex, it’s a recipe for some truly extraordinary coffees.
We’re excited to continue working with the Ureña family for years to come. Santa Teresa has consistently placed in the top 10 of the Cup of Excellence, including a 1st place finish in 2024 with their washed Geisha.
