Roger Ureña's Geisha 🇨🇷
Roger Ureña's Geisha 🇨🇷
- Costa Rica
In 2017, when we first opened our doors, Roger Ureña Hidalgo’s Santa Teresa coffees were among the first we purchased. Our team immediately fell in love with his Catuai, and later that year, we were completely stunned by his Geisha—the first Geisha we ever offered in our shop. Eight years later, we’re still just as proud to be serving his coffees.
Geisha (or Gesha) is one of the most sought-after coffee varieties in the world. Its origins trace back to the Gesha village in Ethiopia, and it was introduced to Central America in the mid-20th century. This varietal is prized for its delicate character, with a cup profile often marked by complex florals, tropical fruit notes, and a refined, tea-like elegance. Beyond its exceptional cup quality, Geisha is also known for its challenges: it’s a low-yielding plant, and highly susceptible to disease and pests. These factors make it a higher-risk crop for growers and contribute to its premium price.
