Various local farmers in Kirinyaga handpick coffee cherries and bring their harvest to the Wamwangi washing station to be processed. The coffee cherries are sent through a disk depulper which removes the majority of the fruit. Next the coffee is fermented for 24 hours before being washed again to remove the rest of the fruit. After washing, the coffee is dried on raised beds for 7-15 days depending on environmental factors.
We have three different offerings from this washing station. These coffees are sorted by screen size which yields varying flavor results.
AA. 17/18 Screen Size
The most valued screen, although we don't believe the screen size has a direct correlation with quality, these are generally known for having deep fruit notes, juicy body, and intense sweetness.
Tasting Notes: Strawberry, Nectarine, Rose
AB. 15/16 Screen Size
Slightly smaller size, but similar cup qualities to the AA.
Tasting Notes: Nectarine, Raspberry, Anise
PB. "Peaberry"
Peaberry is a genetic mutation wherein one seed grows inside of the coffee cherry instead of two. We find these to have a punchy bright tropical characteristic in contrast to the AA and AB
Tasting Notes: Pineapple, Grapefruit, Honey
Farm: Various Smallholders
Varietals: SL28, Ruiri 11, Batian
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1100-1800 MASL
